Dermarolling/skin needling.

Post by Nanou2 » Sun Apr 10, 2011 4:51 pm

Dermarolling/skin needling/Percutaneous Collagen Induction is a technique used to increase collagen production in the skin. I have read and seen so many great results. It can be used in the treatment of acne scars, stretchmarks, scars, hair loss, tighten skin, hyper pigmentation, wrinkles and just for youthful looking skin.

You can pay hundreds of $ for a treatment or you can buy the supplies and do it yourself.

A dermaroller looks like a mini torture device but It's basically a hand held wheel covered in tiny needles. The needles penetrate the skin causing the skin to produce collagen. Lotions, serums and creams are an important part of the process.

Anyway... I bought a dermaroller mainly for the stretchmarks on my stomach which I got when I gained and lost a whole lot of weight.

I have my roller and I am now waiting for my vitamin c powder to make a serum to use after the rolling then I will be all set to go.

Lots of info here..

You can google dermaroller, skin needling or Percutaneous Collagen Induction for photos and more info.

That is so brutal  but it makes sense. I'm gonna have to look into it, I don't have any scars or anything but it sounds interesting! ;)

I saw this being done on a TV show once. It looked like a good alternative to surgery although of course they recommended that you always go to a specialist and not do it at home. I hope it works well for you. I'd be interested in what kind of results you get. Take a before and after picture for yourself because I bet it takes a while to get noticable results.

Yeah it can look a bit brutal! I will definitely be taking photos. It can take a month for the first results and up to a year for the full results. I will be sure to share what happens!

Where did you buy your Dermaroller from ?
I'm looking around online , but I see they have different sizes & what not .
I'm not really sure which one would be better .
Any suggestions ?

I am very intrigued, I have some very deep and noticeable stretch marks on the back of my legs that I'm self-conscious about. After seeing the pictures of the process I'm not sure I could ever have it done on my face though!

You use different size needles for different issues. I have bought a 1.5length for my deep stretchmarks and a 0.5 for my face. You use a 0.5 mainly for better product penetration. You need at least a 1.5 for collagen stimulation.

PrettyDreadful What do you want to treat?

This page has some size info.
http://www.derma-rollers.com/626/what-d ... eedle-size

Some of the professional looking sites have been known to give some wrong information. Some say you can roll with a 1.5needle once a week.. which is wrong. You should only roll with that length once a month. If you did want to roll be sure to read up on everything to get it right. Getting all the right information makes a huge difference to your results!

This forum has lots of great info.

You can buy aesthetic if pain would be a problem for you. Up to a 1.0 pain can be toughed out. A 1.5 can be toughed out too which is what I am going to attempt. Above that an aesthetic cream would be a good idea or you won't be applying enough pressure for penetration.

I did some research and I found the Dr Roller to be the best roller. There are a lot of fake Dr Rollers out there though. I decided to buy one from ebay with good reviews/feedback. I saw the roller was an MT roller which I hear are good too. I will PM you the ebay store if interested.

You need to buy products for the treatment after the roll. The products are a very important part of the process. If you are interested I can give you a list of somethings you will need. I am using vitamin C homemade serum, vitamin A oil with a little vitamin e oil. I have been taking a vitamin c pill for a couple of weeks in preparation also. Vitamin c is essential for the production of collagen.

It all sounds a bit much but it's not really once you get everything. If you do have great results it gives you confidence and also costs next to nothing compared to surgery/treatment.. also from what I have read it's more effective than laser treatment on stretch marks.

The videos you see online with loads of blood are the roller at a long length. The needle length can go up to 3mm which is too long for self needling and normally done by a professional. For stretchmarks a 1.5mm is good. You will bleed and have a sore spot for a few days.

Thank you for the info .
I really appreciate you taking the time to write that out for me :)

I'd mainly want the Dermaroller for the stretchmarks on my stomache , but I'd also be interested in using it on my face.

Could you PM me the ebay store please hun ? And maybe the list of things I will need ?

I plan to try this , but not until I have all the info & can be sure I am actually doing it right !

Thanks again !

Well my first roll went good. I rolled my belly and my face. My face has some acne scars from when I was younger and also my skin is not as tight as it used to be after I gained and lost weight.

I did my second roll a couple of days ago. I noticed after 3 weeks my face skin was looking much tighter and glowing. My belly is hard to tell, I don't think I see a change yet but the biggest changes are suppose to be seen after 6months which is the time it takes for full skin generation.

I have been using my vit C serum and vit A oil daily on both my face and belly. I seemed to have curd my hormonal acne in the last couple of weeks too! Which has been even better for my results. I believe I cured my facial hormonal acne with vitamin d! I think I will write a post about it.

So my results have been great on my face and my belly I am still waiting for.

I will let you know about my results in a few weeks. I did take before photos. When I get some results worth sharing I will do just that!

I would say a 0.3 and 0.5 is too short of a needle. I only say that because I have the 0.5 and don't even use it. The needles are so small I don't see them having any use but for product penetration.

For collagen induction I recommend at least a 1.0 I have been using a 1.5 on my face and belly. I would get a 2.0 for my stretchmarks next time I order, which will probably be in a couple of months.

I read a article somewhere about the needle lengths. I saw that 1.5 is the minimum needle length you should use for collagen despite what some other places say. I also saw an image of the skin and how far the needle reaches. 1.5 is a must to reach the correct part of the skin to have any benefits.

I wish I never bought a 0.5 I can only imagine how small a 0.3 must be. I think these small sizes were made for money reasons only. The original technique for collagen induction therapy is done with 2.0 and above.

Unless you just want better product penetration I would stay away from anything less than a 1.0

I have a high pain tolerance too. The first time I rolled the pain wasn't super bad but painful enough that I think it affected my roll. I could have done better if my skin was numb.

This time around I looked at buying some numbing cream but it was far too expensive. I had a couple of glasses of wine instead which seemed to help

I would like to do my boobs too but I am going to wait until I buy more rollers. I use the same one for my belly and face (sterilizing it before each use) and don't want to wear the needles out any faster doing an area which I am less concerned about.

Yes you do have to be aggressive! which is tough when you feel it.

How is the emla cream? or have you yet to use it. Maybe I'll buy some next time. I'm such a cheapskate! I didn't want to buy it in case it didn't stay numb when I wiped it off. I don't want to roll with it on.

Using it deep enough doesn't seem to be a problem. One tip I can offer is use the little finger grip thing above the wheel of the roller to keep the roller straight. I found sometimes I would start a roll and due to the pain I would tilt the roller without me knowing and have only one side of the roller going all the way in. Using the finger grip keeps even pressure and keeps the roller straight.

the next few days after the roll my face feels flaky. The roll causes a sort of peeling effect. I read this is normal and not to pick it or scrub it. It goes away after a few days.

Do you have any vitamin c powder to make a serum? Or vitamin a?

Ahh yeah I read about the lidocaine overdosing. You could get away with doing sections of skin so you don't do a large area in one go. Half the face one day and the other half the next?

I think I'll stick to my red wine and metal music method! haha

I have vitamin A oil with a little bit of vit E. I think I'll get rosehip oil next as it contains a lot of vitamin A and it suppose to be great for scaring.

The vitamin c I use is just powder mixed with water. The acid can sting a little bit but goes away after a minute or 2. If I add more water it doesn't sting at all. Some people can be more sensitive to it than others as I have no problems.

You can make your own vitamin C oil too. I just find making my own stuff to be much cheaper. I looked at some vitamin C cream, it had dozens of ingredients and cost $30. I don't want billions of ingredients I don't know going in my skin after I put lots of holes in it

taking a vitamin C pill orally is also said to be beneficial! :)

I will have to look at the red palm oil. I would be scared of having an orange face!

I read about the emu oil. I don't think I would have a problem with using it now that I eat meat. I was thinking of getting it to use a week after the rolling and on the rest of my body.

I read that single needling can be more effective on deeper scars. Maybe something like your belly button scar that might be another option. I think for single needling acupuncture needles are used.

Are you mixing your vitamin c with the oil? I have been thinking about mixing my vitamin c with a vitamin a cream. I'm not to sure how to go about it though! I will have to do a bit of research.

Let me know how your skin is in a few weeks!
