first dread fall

I just finished my first dread fall last night and i know the length isn't right but planning on making long ones when my new hair arrives also my dreads came out soft but i want the dreads tight anyway after using the straighten method then i realised they were on 80c so i've moved it up to 280c is that ok? If it doesn't work what straighteners are the best to use? Also does anyone know where i can get good black elastic as the one i have one the dread fall is tight and i bought it from ebay so if there's anywhere else on the net that i can get good elastic i'd apprecitice it.

They look a lot like my early attempts.

I saw, backcomb a tonne more and twist a lot more when you seal. Also, don't let the dread go until it has cooled completely.

As for elastic, I buy mine from a local variety store in the sewing section, I just get 20mm width.

Agreed on more backcombing and twisting more when sealing.

As for good straighteners, I have this one. It's great. Has a nice steam setting on it too. You can choose from a few different temperature setting and a high/low steam setting. It used to be $120 when it first came out.. but now it's around $70... still pricey but if you use it for more than just dreads, it's worth it. Otherwise, I'd just splurge for a steamer.

I agree more back combing and for sealing I prefer to use the steam from a kettle holding the tip with needle nose pliers (I don’t not won a steamer yet)

I like using an iron and wet towels to get a solid seal. We also sell black rubber bands. I've had them in my hair 2 and 1/2 weeks with no rubber band problems.
