Coloured Contact Lenses

I have wore prescription ones from the opticians. I have blue eyes and got a natural dark teal. It was my first time with them. I found I couldn't wear them for long because I hated the feeling. Apperently you get used to it though.

I had my eyes measured and the lenses made to fit my eye ball shape. The lenses cost about £13 and that included the cleaning solution and a lesson in wearing them. They were 1month lenses so well worth the money!

I have worn colour lenses that I bought online and they scratched the hell out of my poor eyes. I highly recommend you buy them from the optician and no where else.

I'm sure you're sensible enough to realise this, but even for non-corrective contact lenses you will need a prescription as contact lens fitting also goes based on the curvature of the eyeball.

Beyond that I have no experience with contact lenses I'm afraid. An optician will have the best information and they usually allow trials to see how you get on with them.

My aunty wears lenses all the time. She has brown eyes & trialled some blue lenses, she said it was the most uncomfortable thing she'd ever tried. However, I do know people that have them & love them. One girl, got hers from India, so unfortunately.....not much help.

Have you been to an optician to ask about them? Specsavers sell them, I haven't tried coloured lenses, but I get my ordinary prescription lenses from them, and they were brilliant with helping me get used to them. I had an appointment to learn how to put them in and take them out, and wasn't allowed to take my lenses home until they were confident I could do it. Sorry if that's not much help with the coloured lenses aspect, but they get my thumbs up for service on normal lenses, so I'd assume they'd provide the same care for coloured ones.

I have worn colored lenses for years, although I do not wear them much these days. They are slightly thicker than regular lenses, and do require getting use to, but eventually they become quite comfortable as long as you don't sleep in them.

Also, they take a bit of getting use to because occasionally they may overlap your pupil a bit here and there depending on lighting and how wide your pupil is. Depending on the opacity of the color on the lens, this could cause slightly blurring vision in some situations.

One of the most popular colored lens brands, at least in the US is Freshlook, but I have never been a fan of these lenses. TO me they look like someone used a magic marker to color in your eyes, and do not appear natural. Acuvue makes colored lenses for light eyes, as does Ciba-Vision, and I have found these to look much more natural.

Personally, I was using a lens called CooperVision Expressions because I wanted violet eyes and their shade of violet was the most clear and dramatic. Recently though I have started to have trouble with the material the lens is made out of, and I find them extremely uncomfortable. Eyes can naturally change over time, so I am thinking they are just not for me anymore.

If you go to a reputable doctor, they should have some trial lenses that you can try on to find out which ones you like. You will have to pay for an exam even though you are without an RX, because the doc is still required to make sure the fit is right.

I use ciba vision - freshlook colours.
I have dark eyes so these are the best for me, if you have lighter eyes then colourblends might be better.
