Furry boot covers

Post by luvplacebo » Fri Mar 20, 2009 9:45 pm

I know pretty much how to make them but does anyone know whats the best to hold it up with? People say elastic but I want the colours to match the covers

Generally it's elastic which you can get in different colours i think but if you're making them you have the freedom to change things so you could use lace or a similar material instead and tie it to the right tightness when you wear them?

You can use lycra at the top but it doesnt hold them up as well as elastic does. I always use elastic or when I use lycra I still put elastic in under it :)

You could use velcro on the inside, that's what I do.

My boot covers have been holding up so far without a problem p:

Thanks guys, I think I'm gonna cover the elastic with a matching colour material, probably lycra or something similar

if you really didn't want it showing another way to do it and the way I do sometimes is make the length of fur a bit longer and overlap it over the elastic so you can't see it

I find lycra to be the best... it also doesnt give the nasty elastic burn after a big night of dancing!

I haven't made any yet but it does seem like lycra would be the most comfortable even if it's a little more effort to do.

Had an idea actually, for boot covers you can use with different shoes (i.e. if the covers are sometimes too long short) - could put some velcro on the inside of the bottom of the covers so the length could be adjusted. As I said, I haven't made any yet but thought I'd throw the idea in.

Adjamiba make really good fluffies - which is (apart from Contagious) where I get mine from. They are so cheap too, like £10 a pair and they have pretty much every colour. My personal fave are Cyber Bunny fluffs though, cos they fit great.

If you are trying to make your own, then shiny lycra fabric at the top of the leg is the best and cut it a bit shorter than the circumference of your leg below your knee to ensure they don't fall down.

Look forward to seeing your fluffies!

I used drawstrings once and they didnt work too well. You can't use slippery ribbon because it comes untied so easily. I just always used lycra or elastic and that worked perfectly!

The best way I have found is spandex around the base to add some color and then on the inside you stretch the elastic out as you sew it to the fur and then sew the two sides together like you normally would and tada! a hidden elastic!
This is opposed to the other methods i know of, like where you flip the fur over, i just find that the fur i use is to bulky for anything else... if that doesn't make sense i can show some pictures haha :i2:

Hope it helps!
