Could be. Maybe not with a lighter though, because flame tends to blacken things. However, something like a heat gun or a braid sealer could potentially do the job. I'm not sure of bubble wrap's ability to melt and join.

OT: I used to have a plastic welding kit... pretty funny. It was like a modified heat gun, with plastic rods just like for regular metal welding.

It will be interesting that I know!

Vixen~ That kit sounds pretty cool!
Where did you get it?

I was thinking of a combo of coloured bubble wrap and colored clear tape maybe even some neon duct tape for some pattern and pazaz!

Whatever I come up with you know I will be keeping everyone here on HEF updated :)

Someone bought it for me, strangely enough. So I don't know where he got it.

There are a bunch of different kinds and some are pretty expensive (for welding PVC pipes, industrial work etc). I came across these on eBay though.

Have to check out my usual craft haunts then in search of one ^^

I read on one of the forum links that it's NOT made from tape. but some people have stated this plenty of times haha. I must just buy or gather up regular bubblewrap and figure this out. I have a feeling that it's WAY more simpler than I'm thinking. But
OT: I heard they're openning an [A] narchy in LA?! I may just go get my hair did there haha

hello lovelies, i just checked HH for the first time in ages, and came across this thread...i have to say, i think all the ideas being tossed about are really interesting, and i like how you guys are thinking :)

just to clarify one thing, we use nothing [and i mean nothing!] other than bubblewrap when making bubblewrap dreads :) while it would be possible to wrap the bubblewrap in something or wrap the bubblewrap *around* something, ultimately, it will end up with a strange shape and be quite heavy.

our way of making these dreads uses only the raw material, but i definitely encourage anyone who is interested in trying them out to try and test any methods they come up with :) there are no rules when it comes to how things are made!

if anyone makes anything, i would love to see a show-off! :)

So I believe I have found out the secret. It's very simple if it is in fact the [a] narchy method. If not I'm satisfied with my own method. Image

It's bubble wrap with coloured tape on the underside and then it's wrapped round craft wire.

Is this an assumption or is this from an actual analysis?

Alright everyone I have made a wig with bubblewrap dreads!!! I'm going to post pictures up tomorrow I PROMISE. I need input on if anyone believes it's similar to an anarchy wig because these do take awhile to make NO JOKE and I personally feel very satisfied with my own results. But right now I'm actually supposed to be doing schoolwork... haha So on that note I'll continue my studies and when I get home will post pictures up.

I think that looks cool!
I do agree that they should have been smaller. Probably wouldn't be as stiff.

I would share my technique but I guess I can't tell it off until I'm definitely sure it's the technique that I like and to be honest I'm still testing them out so eventually I'll speak but till then I want others to come up with their own prototypes :D I think the fun of these is just figuring out how easy they are to make but timewise no.
Here are more examples of my wig:
