Packaging question

Post by ..::AtomicLox::.. » Tue May 24, 2011 2:53 am

Soooo I've been asked to work up some accent kits to put in a booth at a local indoor Artisans Emporium, and I'm having a hard time figuring out how and if to package them. It kind of icks me to consider leaving them hanging out for god-knows-who to fondle them... but I can't think of a good alternative!

Anyone have any brilliant thoughts?

ETA a second question this made me think of:

What do you prefer your dreads to arrive in when you order them from a seller?

You could order long, skinny ziplock bags and then staple tags onto the tops.. like basically make your own mini kk bags, but they'll be more secure because of the ziplock part.

Uline has a good selection:

I like receiving dreads in kk bags because that's what I'm used to. I've also gotten them in tissue paper and wrapped in other types of plastic bags and been fine with it. I'm not too picky about how they're packaged as long as they're neatly wrapped up and not just thrown randomly into a box/envelope.

I was gonna suggest something along those lines but she beat me to it, with a link and everything

But I can answer the second question. I definitely prefer to get dreads in a kk bag or similar sturdy bag, or nicely wrapped in tissue paper, it keeps them from flopping around and it just looks like some attention went into it, like the seller cares about giving you good service and not just making money by shipping them out as quickly and cheaply as possible. I don't like recieving ANYTHING when its just thrown haphazardly into a box so it can get bounced around. I recieved a set of dreads in a grocery store bag (maybe walmart?) duct-taped shut, from what I recall some of the loose hairs were stuck/folded up into the tape and had to get broken off. It was inside another package and everything, but it just didn't look professional or like any kind of effort went into it. Much sad :(

I don't like the idea of recieving a load of pretty dreads in a kk bag, but maybe that's because mine are all scrunched up when I've finished. I like nicely wrapped parcels, I try to send my dreads wrapped in matching tissue-paper and I always include business cards and any goodies if I have them.

As for displaying them, IKS's idea was good, keep them secure and on display and people can still feel the texture through the packaging if needed. You can embellish the packets as much as you like them :)

Thanks guys!

I'd kinda like to avoid buying 1000 bags at a time, but it looks like that may be my only option! Great link, Sarah. they have the dimensions I was looking for!

I'm really turned off by dreads packaged in KK bags for some reason. Not going to deter me from awesome sellers, however.

i get that you dont want people fondalling them, but may be people will be curious about them and want to touch them, i know i would if it was me, if i saw them and how no experience with them, so maybe package them in something that wouldnt be ruined if someone did want a little touch, like a ziploc bag

Valid point, for sure. I do have eight billion people touch mine when I have them installed, with or without permission! Still... it strikes me as a health concern to an extent, I guess. *shrug*

I 2nd what trish suggested. I would want to touch them too:)

Maybe have a metal ring with sample dreads hanging up next to the bags of dreads.

words of wisdom have a dread ring like you would have a colour ring ??? with different styles like wrappy, solid, transitional, harlequin etc as i like to feel the joined on transitional and the texture of the harlequins where they meet.
