HAIR HAIR HAIR

Post by FaerieGirl » Sat Mar 26, 2011 5:26 pm

I just bought about a million packets of hair for a few new sets. Okay, it wasn't a million, but it felt like it. I'm terrified of not having enough hair to finish my project (I tend to get side-tracked if I have to stop for a few days to wait for a new shipment of hair) so I get about 10 per set, but only ever end up using 6-7. So it made me wonder, how many packets of hair do you buy on average AND how much of it do you actually end up using? If you're like me, you end up squirreling away a few packets for a rainy day or the next time you want to try a new technique.

For some reason I'll over-estimate what I need. Like, I'll get an order, and automatically thing "right, I have an order so let's order 10 bags" Doesn't really matter if the kit is only 50 dreads or 120.
But because I always over buy, means always have heaps spare too. At the moment, I''ve got about 20 bags of hair, half of those black, and the rest are colours that aren't going to work well together, but it's good to know that I've got them coz I'm hoping I'll need them one day :)

i would always over-buy hair when i was still making dreads!

i would work out approximately how much i needed... then buy more just in case (like you, i hate having to wait for hair to finish a set!)
so say i worked out i needed six bags... i would buy eight

for that reason, i now have a MASSIVE stash of hair, but i wont get rid of it just in case i decide to return to dread making!

It drives my poor mom nuts. I have to stash it away like a crack fiend. lol. I swear, I'm going to come home to an intervention one of these days.
"what are you doing?"
"...nothing...."
"Are you ordering hair again?!"
"But mom... I NEED it!"
"You have tons of it in your room!"
"But it's not the right color!!"

 I know the feeling :P My hair (and equiptment, and combs, and offcuts) are slowly but surely taking over our loungeroom. I stoked up on all the most asked for colours, but I'm still having to do little orders to stock up on colours I don't have. My boyfriend just doesn't get it :P

i have worked out a storage area for backcombed dreads and bags of hair.. i took yarn and strung it across my windows.. i have room for about 4 sets backcombed and i can hold about 20 bags of hair then i have a set of drawers to hold the partical bags and odds and ends.. but it still feels like it's taking over O.o

Yup. I have a ton of single bags that don't go together! I say the same thing to myself "Why the hell am I ordering more hair when I have a mountain of it taking over my room".

I guess at some point I will have enough random bags to make a full matching kit:)

'Kinda like hotdog buns and hotdogs, you have to buy like 12 packages to get them to come out even.

I know I get 8 DE's and 16 SE's out of a pack of hair. so for a full set i buy 6 bags which is 48 DE's. I never over buy as I can't afford it. Wish i did somethings though, would be nice to have some KK spare.

I usually order about 10-12 bags per kit depending on colors, typically use between 7-8. I refuse to get rid of even the smallest unused portion, and therefor have half a closet in our house dedicated to boxes of unopened packets on the floor, above which are 4 massive poofy loose hair monsters on hangers, sorted by color family! (Neutrals/Naturals, Reds/Oranges, Greens/Blues, Purples/Pinks).

Kind of excited to be taking a break from customs for a little while, actually. One of my big goals is to start in on using up my scraps stash!
