can you make a dread wig using a kk hair weave?

Post by fishyadienlee » Sat Sep 25, 2010 12:11 am

i know the normal way of making a dread wig is to loop the kk hair through the wig cap but i was wondering if i could just use weave tracks made for kk, glue it to the cap [like a quick weave] and then backcomb it like a normal dread wig.

would it leave to many gaps in the final product? and do you think it would show the weft areas?

sorry if this sounds dumb but i am trying to find a different way to make a dread wigs.
I have nerve issues in my left hand and shoulder so looping small bits of kk hair over and over again hurts and then i still have to backcomb and seal them afterward.
i was thinking if this weft idea is a good one then it could cut out a painful step for me

wouldnt it just be easier to buy a synthetic kk wig and adding the extra hair where needed?

it would but im also a high school student without a job so money is very tight.

i cant really afford a P.O. wig to dread up.[also they are too pretty to dread up!] so i figured it would be cheaper to make my own and go from there.

you'd have to be carefull when you position the tracks so you wouldn't see them when its all dreaded up.
Good luck if you go ahead and do it, I'd like so see some pictures

I'd recommend sewing them on rather than using glue. Wig caps are usually mesh, so the glue won't have much to stick to.

I have sewn wefts onto the mesh base of a synthetic wig to fill in the gaps. I used 2 layers of weft and dreaded it before I stitched it on.

I'm working on making my own wig from scratch using the same method.

I found some silky KK already wefted at my local beauty supply store. It's Kanubia by Sensationnel and it was only $10 a pack. I used two packs, but most of it went to the spiraling at the crown. But then again I left large gaps between the wefts in the back so I could vent loose KK jumbo braid into the mesh wig cap.

However I've only been able to find wefted KK in natural colours and that weird burgundy red colour. So I'm sure you'll have to weft your own KK if you want an unnatural colour.

As for cheap wigs, skim ebay and the community pages here. Some ladies have wigs up for sale all the time.

It's a shame synth hair has to be so expensive. >.<''
Well if you can't find itcheap, do it yourself I always say.
However I've only attempted wefts three times and it's a bit time consuming to do about 12". I can't imagine a whole wig. But it would be a great bragging point. Hehe.

OT I know! Ain' he just the cutest? It was either him or Reita, from Gazette, with a banana phone. Hehe. ^.^
