Foam Fall "Mounting" Troubles

Long time no post! :i10:

Anyway, I recently had a request for all foam falls. I've added foam to falls before but never made a pair of "Just Foam" pieces.

I tried the "hole punch" method a long time ago but never had 'great' success with that, so this round I decided to try the "folding method", using multi-colored layers and rexlace. I started two pair, with different foam widths, and different Millimeters in density. Here's a snapshot:

Now I got all the pieces cut, folded, and laced... The looked pretty awesome to me, until I tried to "mount" them on elastic, and then ribbon...

I guess the issue is that the 'pieces' are too wide and too thick to put a bunch together without most of them "falling flat" on the side of a bun or ponytail... :i6:

Showing the width compared to my hand (and these are only half the pieces! FOR ONE FALL!)

This is the weird bundle of them I tried to lace together to "overlap" them in hopes they would all sit on top of hair

My question is has anyone ever made "just foam falls" or even with "just foam and rexlace" and found a good way of mounting them so they aren't flopping to the side and laying flat?

The pink and black ones I made were much thinner and they seemed to string quiet nicely, but still I can only fit a few together before they start 'falling to the side' of the hair itself when mounted.

Any suggestions would be great! I wouldn't mind changing the "mounting media" like using a clip or something, but the request for the cool colored one specifically asks for ribbon or elastic.

Let me know f you have input! I'm all earbuds :i9:

Only fold over 2 pieces at most, tie the rest to the back of the fold :)

Foam is best when paired with some tubing that is lightweight and falls nicely. Rexlace does nothing but looks nice, so it doesn't really help.

Foam strips need to be thin, but it is possible for them to be about 2cm wide.

Thanks for the input - I'm gonna deconstruct a little and see what happens...
