rubberband weave?!
hey guys. haven't posted in a long time. last august, i got a little crazy with bleach/perm solution and fried my dreads off. i'm still growing out, so i want to get a weave. i've been toying with the idea of getting a sew-in, but while doing my research, i came across this video on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij7lLMaM9Ic
i like the idea of using the elastics, since i can probably do this myself rather than pay a bunch of money at a salon. however, my concern is the elastics breaking down from the natural oils in my hair.
anybody have any thoughts on this? i'd like to do something that's going to last at least 3 months or so. i'm sick of glue. i'm wondering if any of you have tried it...
also if anyone has tried this, please let me know how it worked for you...

well i was thinking i would use more rubberbands than what she used in the video. i also keep seeing a "malaysian" weave. i'm wondering if anyone has tried this as well?

To me, it really doesn't seem like that would be super secure. I'd say try the microring wefting before doing that.

That seems like it would be something that would be for a pretty temporary wear. You could try liquid gold bonding or EZWefts if you are looking for an easy way to diy. Again, those will be a little more temporary than a stylist doing an install for you.

i did this with just a few tracks in the front of my hair and it lasted about three weeks, then the bands started popping. i didnt notice any damage and it was only uncomfortable the first few days.

yeah i was thinking that the natural oils in my hair would break down the rubber. oh well, i guess i know what it's good for and in the mean time i'll keep wearing my wig... lol...

you could try the micro ring wefting as vixen suggested. its easy to do yourself as well and more secure.

Re: rubberband weave?!
Rubberbands will absolutely break. Just about anything will break the rubber down; hair oil, salt water, chlorine, etc. Rubber bands aren't good for longer than a couple weeks.
Microring weave, serious. It's been my jam for a long time.
