simple dreads with pics! *NOW WITH SEAL METHOD!*
ok so i dont have all that fancy stuff and even if i did i ouldnt have the room for it...
this tutorial only requires 3 things
-hair
-comb
-plastic hanger..
so at any rate here we go..
so first off choose a good amount of hair... for a regulr thickness at a medium length i can get about 9 or 10 out of a single bag
next i get the base well done before continuing.
i split it a few times to make it fluffier.. not in the same places though.
then i back comb the whole thing into a 'ball-o-hair'
i try to straiten it out a little with my thumb and fore finger.
i then continue back-cmbing at the top where i left off and when i get a fe inches down i split it again... then back comb like 4 times and split it a again..
just to show you what it looks like about half way threw.. as you can see whats done should stand strait
i then backcomb most if the way down and tist it to see if there is any lumps.. if there are I backcomb them till they're even with the rest of the dread.
When i get to the bottom i back comb another little ball...
then i again kinda pull it strait.
and finally i back comb it as much as possible. and this is hat it looks like hen im done back combing!!
!!!SEALING!!!
okie dokie heres this,
what you nees is
-iron
-bath towel
-hand towel
-and a big bowl of water.
1st off you lay the bath towel down on the floor...
then you submerge the part of the dread your working on
You see im make DEs and i can only seal one end a time so i cover the other end with the towel and step on it..
so then what you need to do is wet the hand towel on the part thats over the dread and twist the dread real tight and place the iron on
then after one minute pull it up and twist it again. (i do this a few time usually 4 times.. all the ay down the dread.. and you will have to submerge a few times. as said which ever part of the dread your working on)
when you get to the bottom do one 30 second seal
just to show you the sealed next to the unsealed
ok so no were to the tips..! submerge the whole tip!!
see how tiny your end should be?
now this is my way of doing tips.. its great for light colors.. as it doesnt discolor.. may sure its still really really wet and tist it on the edge of your iron
i do this until it snaps the loose stuff off and then i submerge it again and use the tip of the iron and gently push with my finger, and rotate it and push again i do this a few times..
and then the tip should come out nice and clean..
heres my tip
and this is the method i use and have for years now..
ta-da!!

So you use a hand iron and have never had problems with unravelling?

I use an iron to seal mine too but I don't do it quite the same. I don't put water in the iron, keep it on low and have the dreads wet. I pull them straight from the sink onto the ironing board and put the iron directly onto the hair.It works a treat and is very quick.
What, that? It's a spade.

I used to do that after I sealed them with the steam and cloth method, before I got my ghetto kettlewoolhairhabit wrote:I use an iron to seal mine too but I don't do it quite the same.
