ok stupid me. i have a question.

how are you using the need to connest the color to the dread? are you just basiclly pushing it in there? is it absolutly nessasary to have a felting needle? or is there any ways around it??

The felting needle picks up fibers and displaces them, thus matting (knotting) the fibers together so they become solid :)
Felting needles are the only thing that can do such.

Great tutorial and great technique! I hope I get a chance to try it out soon. :)

Argh, now I need to find a felting needle. And even worse, I have to learn what it's called in Greek to ask for it. :P

Just a little odd question, I've made quite a few splashed dreads now and I've been using what I think is a "Corse" needle the craft shop where i get mine needles from only imports from Holland or Sweden so i have to take a guess at what i'm buying (not helpful) but I was wondering is anyone has had good bad results from fine needles or from what i can work out "star" or "crown" needles?

I think the type I use is a star needle. A coarser needle is looking at 36g and down (how the gauge system works). 38g is too fine for what we're working with, but would work well with fine fibred roving wool :)

I guess you could use a latch hook and thread it through? I prefer the felting needle.

I'm in the US so forgive me if you don't have one close by but I check JoAnn Fabrics (in store) and they didn't have any, but they do online only... at least they have some:

Hope that helps a bit.
