Double fold microring technique

I know that typically Eurolocs uses the double fold "book" technique for extra durability in their installs.
But are Eurolocs any different from other micro rings?
Can this same double fold technique be used with any microring or does it need to be a specific sizing?
I've also read that with the double fold, the pliers point to unfold it does create some breakage in the hair. I'm not sure how since it's just opening the double fold but could silicone lined micros prevent said breakage?
