It said Human Hair....

Post by robyndoe » Mon Mar 21, 2011 9:31 am

But I'm gonna guess that was a lie.

Okay, here's the deal. I bought some blonde extensions off a girl on this board and she told me it was HH. If I remember correctly, the package itself said HH also. It was blonde, #613 I believe. I tried to dye it with permanent hair dye and it only stained it. I thought maybe it was only partially HH so I got the idea to try to dye it with Rit Fabric Dye. It stained more, and now it's a pretty translucent purple/silver color... but I really need it to be black. Help!

I can only talk from personal experience I bought some HH extension off of the board and tried to dye them and they are like two shades lighter than my hair as well as being the exact same with the patchiness in the end I had to cut them to about 6 inch and have got them as a fringe piece hope this helps?

Potentially treated with something to stop it from being dyed?

I dunno... it's just suuuuuper disappointing that I spent money on this and I can't use it. Any ideas on other chemicals that may dye it completely black?

I've heard than a Sharpee works on synth hair. Or if it is HH that has been coated with something you could try bleaching it to remove the coating and open up the follicle.

I'm not a hairdresser so I'm just guessing :i2:

I dyed it a 3rd time and let it sit for almost a full day... the purple tint in the black dye has removed all of the blond/brassy color so now it's like... Sephiroth silver. Neat. I think the hair wins this time. I'll just have to make accent pieces out of it.

If it is #613, it's probably been processed and treated waaaay too much already. Did you wash the weft before dyeing it? There may have been a treatment on the hair that the dye couldn't penetrate. You may want to find darker weft as it is difficult to dye blonde hair to black when the hair is still on the head, let alone on a weft after it's had endless amounts of chemicals already dumped on it.

I'd put this one down as a happy mistake.

i agree, happy mistake. black weft is the cheapest color of weft to come by too, so just buy some more black, and use the other for cool accents like you said

Yea, I'm done trying to mess with it but I am happy that I managed to make that color. Consider it the silver lining (lol) of the whole situation. So I guess if anyone needs to make that color, this is how you do it.

I bought some ECW HH wefts #613 from IKS and i was able to dye it jet black just fine.
[going for a half blonde-half black style]

Goodluck with your hair-ventures.

Just be sure to look up reviews on the brand you're buying.

They can put synthetic hair in even if it says human hair. You need it to say 100% human hair if you need to dye it and not have synth hairs in.
