Securing DE dreads for backcombing/sealing? *HALP*

soes. How do you secure your DEs when you do your business? I've kinda gotten stuck with the toe method for backcombing, and using whatever heavy object I have lying around for securing when sealing, but neither of those solutions are optimal. I've seen pins, rods, bungee cords etc used for SEs, but how would any of those factor in to DE securing?
The only thing I can really come up with is using some sort of clamp on the edge of a table or some such thing

Granted, I have seen the dreadloom from doctoredlocks but I don't quite have the resources/space for something like that, so I gotta come up with a plan B.

I bought a cheap but sturdy table from a thrift shop. I just clamp the dread to my table.

I've heard a funny suggestion about sealing the ends with a lighter.
Not sure if it works though... O_o
