Dread costs depend on time worked in them, materials used and the popularity and quality of work from the seller.
If you want to have a go at your own, check out the tutorials, there is so much there to read through and have a go at yourself . It is also worth looking on YouTube for tutorials.
Best thing to do, buy some hair and have a play

Tutorials for nearly every dread type are in a playlist.
I've seen T6's dreads in person (a friend owns a pair), at first they were perfect and everything, really high quality, but she wore them a lot and they don't look anywhere near as smooth or tight now (they're about 2 years old). Last time I saw them, they were in another (mutual) friend's bedroom and they kinda looked worse for wear. Mind you, T6 has a big name out there, so she can charge whatever she deems worthy of her brand.
I would believe that her technique would include steaming (steamer with cloth attachment) and then smoothing down with a wet rag and flat iron.

It would appear as though she does exactly what most of us do. Backcomb, twist, seal. Over and over a billion times until you have it down to an art! It's definitely possibly to make them yourself and have them be up to par for the quality you want, but you can't expect it the first time. It will take time, a lot of practice, and a LOT of patience. There's definitely a learning curve, but if you're serious about learning you've come to the right place.

I have been out of the loop a little while apparently. I did not realize she began making her own I have made a set for her in the past, this was a few years ago now. The pic below is them. These were made with the traditional back combing method and sealed with an industrial strength steamer. The falls are on three layers, one short, one medium, and one mixed short and very long. They were heavy!

Agreed. I know for a fact she uses one of those stand up steamers as she's posted it before on twitter and livejournal i think. Rivet Licker's tutorial on thick poofy dreads(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-qLScSyZ18 ) basically explains all of what i was going to say, practice makes perfect. So following that tutorial will help you a lot(:rivetlicker_ wrote:http://www.youtube.com/daggirl
