hey guys, so i know how to make a dread wig, but i have one issue.
i like to back comb and do all my work while its on the manikin so i can see how it will come out.
How they hell do i prevent the wig from moving around/falling off!!??
im sooo frustrated with it. what do you guys do while working?
i dont want to hold it in my lap because either way its going to move around.
i taped my manikin head down but what do you suggest to keep the wig still?

I use these 2 pronged 2" long metal U shaped pins I got at a craft store. I think they are used for flower arranging. I poke a bunch of these through the wig into the foam head. Secures the wig well. Also keeps the wig from puckering when you backcomb and seal! Very important, because if you get a head full of small puckers it can make the wig significantly smaller and ill fitting.
I still have a problem of how to secure the head!:( I usually just hold it up against a coffee table leg with my foot while I backcomb and seal. Not the most comfortable position but it works.

I always hold the head between my knees But the wig, I had most success with pins as well, just regular sewing pins.

I got wig pins free with the head I bought. I got a package of 30 or so, I only use two at a time.

I put a temporary strap around the chin of the head and attach with safety pins to the wig. Nice and tight!

My now-ex bf bolted a bit of 1" diameter steel pipe onto a desk and I just jammed a foam head down onto it to make a super sturdy wig stand. That, and pinning the wig to the head like librarynerd said. I know it's kind of a complicated setup involving tools, but it's worth it if you can figure it out. Makes it really easy.

Re: Making a Dread wig, but the wig won't stay still!
I purchased a small vice and turned it upside down so the metal expander faces up and then slid the foam mannequin head onto it. To secure the wig to the foam head I use three or more T shaped wig pins, one at each temple and one at the crown of the head through the elastic of the wig cap. I have to occasionally re-pin but it stays really still and the combination of the pins and the vice provides plenty of resistance
