latex help

Post by Miss_Panda » Thu Jul 02, 2009 3:18 pm

Do you just use basic scissors to cut latex? or something else as i was thinking the thicker latex is harder to cut and when i tryed to cut the 25mm thick latex it was hard to with my scissors
thought i'd ask as i know a few of you use latex quite often ^^

i use a rotary cutter or a scalpel and ruler to get a straight line (if its a straight seam!).
rotary cutters take on large patterns easily and with practice you can cut out moderatly sharp curves with them too.
for the tightest curves i do still use scissors, but only as a last resort really.

i find scissors catch the latex and very easily makes the latex snarl up when cutting, leaving a rough jagged edge.

If you use scissors make sure they are completely sharp.

if you can get your hands on a surgical scalpel rather than one of the craft knifey type ones it will be much better as its designed for cutting through muscle and the like, also what are you using as your chopping board so to speak, i find a big acrylic board is best as its smooth, hard to scratch up badly and static holds the latex firmly to it too
