Wanted, tut for Sweeney Todd dresses

Post by Kittycat » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:39 pm

I want to make one myself for the prom next year! But I can't find a good tut anywhere...

And not that one from threadbanger, that one was just lame in my opinion..
But to get them to look like this one, a dress from Sleepy Hollow,
http://www.renaissancedress.com/sleepyhollowdress.htm

Anyone? I really want to make my own.. perhaps this one, http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_UdKiVQczTcI/S ... s+zoom.jpg
Or this, http://www.helena-world.com/blog/wp-con ... lena02.jpg

Thanks!

The best thing to do would be to buy a pattern for a bustle gown, then alter it to make it more screen-accurate.

This site has a lot of free patterns for period clothing that you might be able to work with too:

I didn't see any good bustle skirts on there, but I didn't look to closely so I might've just missed them.
I Kick Shins - Now stocking olive green, pistachio, & neon purple kk jumbo braid!
IKS @ Etsy - Clip-in streaks & top hats galore!
Facebook - You know the drill ;)

I would google "Victorian Gown Patterns". You could also try Civil War Ball Gown patterns since some of the pieces are similar. You might be able to find a pattern you could tweak.

I know that McCalls had some Victorian costume patterns at one point in time because a friend of mine bought one. She got it from Joann Fabrics.
