Ha, I tried out the spirit gum, works like a dream, I've really started to enjoy glueing random objects to my face =D Buttons, metal doohickeys etc, thanks for the tip!

@ SyNNy: I used to do the old bending paperclips and hoops/fake hoops etc, but they get painful after a short amount of time.

Thanks guys ^_^

IP I was actually thinking about you when I was in WalMart and they were selling fake piercings for Halloween XD

Glad you got it sorted.

IP, lip piercings don't really hurt that much, it's just a nipping sensation that lasts about a second. I would suggest taking the plunge and going for it :p

I'm sure costume shops sell fake piercings though that just clip on to lip/nose/wherever

i want to put eyelets into some one my fabrics, but all that happens after i put them in (with primm Vario Pliers) is the material begins to fray and the eyelet falls out. have i missed something here?

Try grommets rather than eyelets. They are vastly more secure.

I have been thinking a lot lately about a coat I saw Nero from Psyclon Nine wearing while leaving a show here back in Sept of last year. The coat looked as if it had been originally all black, but had a dusty, building rubble, post-apocolyptic looking effect added to it. It looked as if it was applied with some sort of powder or paint to achieve a strange faux fade. It LOOKED as if you would have slapped him on the back dust would have flied up off of it, but in reality it was set into the fabric.

I think I want to try my hand at making some clothing pieces with this look, but can't picture exactly how I would achieve the effect. It looks like bleach would work in some areas, but is overall harsher and more splattery/drippy than what I am looking for, and I don't know exactly how I would apply it.

Of course I could not find a pic of EXACTLY what I had seen, but the following pictures come close to the overall look. Does anyone know of any tutorials I can research to achieve this, or know of any techniques I can use?

I just did a quick search for distressing fabric (used often for zombie costumes) and found this tid bit I found interesting:
"Make the garment then do the distressing. A wire brush as someone else suggested is good for distressing fabric. If you don't want to use bleach to age the fabric - try taking a spray bottle and spraying a solution of hydrogen peroxide on the fabric and standing it out in the sun and/or light. You can also use lemon juice to bleach out color. Saturated solutions of tea or coffee will give you a brownish look. Be careful of using Acrylic paint or mediums - they'll tend to stiffen the fabric. "

I've never consdered the peroxide/spray bottle otpion before but maybe that will work for you?

*edited to add - here's the link to the page I found that on, there's a bunch of good info there:
http://www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr/Fab ... essing.htm

There is a link at the bottom of the page that takes you to costumes.org which is a nice outline of basic distressing, in case you need it :)

Hi I'm looking for someone to teach me how to slash braid fabric

It looks easy enough but I just can't work it out from the pics and need some guidance before I go cutting stuff up! I looked everywhere online to try find a tut but I just can't find anything :( ! for a start I don't even know what its called! Argh!

I saw some leggings made this way but I want to do my own as they were rediculously priced for what they were when it looks like I could do this myself for a fraction of the price :| !

like this:

Please PM me as I might forget about this :D thanks in advance ^_^ xxxxxx

ok, so then i really could have slapped a cloud of powder off him that night? ha. I am guessing that it washes out then, and you simply reapply it next time?

BTW, thank you to Cherrylex and Nanou2 for their help!

I was just on Vampirefreaks.com and saw some yarn wrapped hair falls someone made. (anyone in the Dread to be different cult will see them)
I like them a lot and was wondering if there is a tut anywhere for this. I want to make some! the only tutorial i found was on cut out and + keep. I could not understand anything they were trying to explain x) lol
