Hey, that IS very helpful.
I love anything with videos ;)

Well, what sort of tutorial are you guys after?
I'm happy to discuss what I know.

How much does everyone know already?
Do we start at the basics? (cast on, knit, purl, cast off)

Or should we discuss this on Chrissy's forum

I found it most helpful being shown, or watching videos - I'm no good at following written instructions, even with diagrams.. so I found Videojug a very useful place when I was trying to cast off for the first time (my MiL taught me how to cast on, knit and purl but hadn't shown me how to cast off yet!)

Videos are definitely much easier to follow, IMO.

Is this being discussed elsewhere?

Anyone? :[

I think you' might be after a crochet tutorial if you want big holes in it?

Were you thinking of something like this?

Well after all this time, I'm happy to start something.
To get us all focusing on the same thing so we can discuss what we don't know & get
Who would be up for a knit-a-long?

We could all knit an agreed upon item or pattern
Then we could discuss how we're going, and what problems we're having.

I'd be happy to find fun, skill-appropriate patterns for us all to work on.
Thoughts?

No pattern ever needs spcific colours - you can use whatever the hell you want.. I never follow which colours they say to use, that's just unimaginitive!
I don't even follow the type of yarn or even the needle size most of the time.. you can just make it up as you go along.. it's much more fun that way, and you learn more too ..like how to make the pattern work in a thicker or thinner yarn, with different-sized needles, etc. :D

This is true... I wasn't thinking of anything as specific as that!
I'd love to see hello kitty in the colours you have tho.. :D
In fact, if hello kitty wasn't so bloody PINK I might actually like it! >.<

Thanks for that.

Though Im thinking of something like huge holes Kinda like a messy giant fishnet knit :D

I will probably be able to achieve the messy part as I have only ever knitted once. I should probably start with some basics.

I've been making a sampler of crochet with big holes in.. I'll get a pic now and post it in a mo.
I think it's easier to make big holes using crochet rather than knit - I can teach you how to make the holes but you'd need to learn how to crochet first.. I can't really explain that in words. There're plenty of video tutorials on places like videojug and youtube.

Okay, got pics..

^This is the crochet sampler - I'm thinking you probably want something with a looser stitch as well as the big holes, but this can easily be acheived by either making lots more holes or by using a much thicker crochet hook (you can see the thickness of the hook I was using - it's poked into the ball of wool at the top of the first photo).

Image
^This is something else I'm currently working on which isn't actually knit or crochet - it's something my MiL is teaching me.. just a craft-type thing using yarn. But yeah, it's a great way of making random holes using yarn and we were just discussing yesterday whether we could use this technique on fabric, to make weird, netted sections - only thing is, you'd have to have a frame to work on.. so if you used strips of fabric for the four edges of your piece and pegged them down somehow in order to get the tension right to make something like this.. then that might just work if you were making a shawl or something like that?
Anyway, it's worth a try.. I'm certainly going to give it a go!

Sorry about the blurriness of the photos - light levels are a bit pants today.
Hope this is what you're looking for?
