Is washing with cold water a lot better than washing with hot water to stop hair fading then?
Fake hair, piercings and fries with that?

I used to use a conditioner mixed with hair dye after each wash, to just kind of top up the colour. Leave it on 5 mins and rinse in cold water, seemed to really help.

I've been using a range by Louise McAdam recently which I think are only available in Tesco - they seem to hold my colours pretty well.
They do ranges for red/ blonde/ brown hair but also a general colour retainer shampoo (I think thats what it's called anyway )
I use the colour retaining shampoo as I have blonde hair with red and purple flashes and I find my colours lasting much longer now

Naked Colour Protection shampoo is AWESOME for preserving unnatural hair colour and I've tried dozens of shampoos over the last few years.

It's quite often on a BOGOF sale in Boots and the deep conditioning treatment that goes with it is fantastic too.

I'm not sure if they have it in the UK, but recently i've swithed to Burts Bee's shampoo and conditioner. Its much more forgiving on semi perm color
