Odd question. Covering up a tattoo....

Post by deadteddys » Thu Sep 18, 2008 10:16 pm

Right so, I have my mothers graduation to go to soon and the only dress I can wear is sort of revealing. Hum!
So the story is I have a tattoo on my chest, not very big, but its very dark, just outline on very pale/white skin. I need to know how can I cover it so it looks like I dont have a tattoo just for one day.
Its not about hiding it, its just out of courtousy (sp?) because my mum hates tattoos.
Thanks for any help in advance :)

I found this http://www.bodyjewelleryshop.com/forum/ ... p?p=248086
I only read so far down before I got distracted though. :|

Could you not get a shrug or something similar to go over the dress. I'm assuming her graduation is pretty soon-ish (mine was in November I think) so its not like its going to be hot out - so it has dual purpose!

Dermablend makeup works fairly well. I think it was originally designed to help cover dark, strange skin patches, like burns and large birthmarks. At any rate, I've had friends use it on tattoos for one day coverups!

I've been meaning to do this, my friend does it on her tattoo(high school is soooo gay) but no one ever notices mine, so it works out ok. Plus, I don't own half the stuff. I only have foundation and a billion eye shadows.

I've recently had my hands tattooed & my sister recommended this for occasions when they are not appropriate.
as a performer herself, she knows her shizz about makeup & such like.

Ahh thankyou girlies :) Im quite fortunate to have a friend that is a professional makeup artist, so I might seek her help on the day :)
Ive got a shrug and it doesnt cover my dress, my dress goes down in a plunge, and I cant buy a new dress because I dont have my student loan/grant through yet, and that has already been pre-spent, I cant afford to buy a new dress!
But yeah, thanks for all your suggestions and such, I will take it all on board :)

dermablend is fab- if you get the right shade! I have it for a scar on my leg that is rather large- and have used it on my tattoos- maybe buy a starter pack, you can get them online for about £6 then you can find the right colour or blend one and it should be enough for your tattoo :)

One of my tattoo artists has immense coverage on her arms and hands, and she's able to cover them up completely with a heavy brush and a heavy coat of mac SPF 35 studio finish concealer, with a dust of powder overtop to make it stay put.

a lot of proffesional make-up artists work with airbrushes. Airbrush make-up covers tattoos flawlessly.

There is also stage makeup, though it's been so long since I was around the stuff that I can't give you a particular product, that is made for covering up tattoos for stage. I'd check theatrical makeup sites, like Ben Nye.
