Hey guys,

Does anybody know if you can install kk dreads in with human dreads permanently? How do they hold up? Is there another type of hair that will withstand permanent wear?

Thanks x

I don't think that would work as you dread KK and Human Hair in different ways and i'm not sure it would hold to the natural dreads.
I think using human hair dread extenders would be a better option.

Although you were asking about synth, I've put in permanent felted dread extensions into hair.
I've only done it a few times, but I hope to become better at it

And you could needle-felt permanent dreadlock extensions into your own dreadlocks.
Or use the felting needle to create patterns & other crazy fun

http://redwolf.com.au/column/opinion/20 ... epair.html
mentions people using felting needles to repair real dreadlocks

Thanks for your responses guys :)

What does everyone think would be the best kind of hair to use? I've had to rule out using human hair because the customer im researching this for doesn't want to spend that much :P

if they want it to be permanent, I think they should be prepared to pay for human hair. I don't think you'd need great quality hair, since it's for dreading.. I can't see synth holding up for long really.. although I have no experience with this, so just my thoughts :)

I personally think that its worth splashing out on human hair if they're going to have natural dreads for any length of time, but meh, customer wants what customer wants.

Im thinking shapeshifter monofibre would be good cos i've heard amazing things about how it holds up as dreads, but would it be too silky to felt into her dreads does anyone know??

I suppose it's possible, but it will most likely look and feel starkly different to her hair and will also not behave in the same manner. I would personally avoid a job like this as the customer may well not be happy with the result in the future through no fault of your own. If they aren't willing to spend the money on the correct hair, I would personally refuse to use the synthetic and lose the client.

Well i've finally convinced her to use human hair but honestly im unsure what to get! I want loose and weft (for making blunt ended SEs without a loop and SEs with a loop) but can anybody recommend a brand/type to me? I would prefer to use Buyhair as I have some other things to order from them but any recommendations welcome :)

For human hair, I like the Great Lengths I believe it's called. Bought a pack of clip-ins from Sallys adn made the set into Clip in Dreads. They dreaded wonderfully!

I saw a girl at my local outdoor mall this summer who got orange and pink synth dreads in, and her hair was starting to dread up behind it. She dyed her hair the same color, and her dreads were tiiiiiiny, but it seemed to be working okay.

I was thinking about this. Maybe wrapped dreads with the hair backcombed behind it?

i have permanent dread extensions, i put them in pretty much like in this tutorial
http://community.livejournal.com/get_up ... 4366.html
these ones are human hair, but i used to have ones that were made of hair similar to kk, it really didnt work well though and they looked kinda ridiculous. i wouldnt recommend that

here are mi dreads! in pictures you can kinda see theyre extended as the flash picks up the fact ive been too lazy to dye them the right color, but in person you cant tell at all, and they feel the same too

I actually made synth dread extenders for a girl on my school.. she sew them in her real dreads and well, after a couple of months, it really melted into the real ones! You can't even tell that it's mostly synth dreads!

Here's a pic on them,

People get really surprised when i tell them that its synthetic, because my god, it looks so real. Im so proud of myself xD

But well, she's had them for about 5 months, and they only look greater and greater for every single month :)
