I don't have my own dreads, but I did help do my friend's. We used the rip and twist method. You could try that for the ends, but in general the ends can be quite hard, plenty of people with well established dreads still have undreaded ends. It looks good to me. I would advise though that the most important thing when doing real dreads is to make sure the sections are neat, and you don't have stray hairs creeping into other sections. I think I would section my whole head first and then dread each section to make sure that there are no stray ones getting into the wrong sections.

my sections are creeping together and i had to cut them appart!

i'd suggest palm rolling and the rip and twist method. don't wax it, it will go ikky

I like it. It looks backcombed about enough.

Those dreads are probably at least a couple of years old. With patience and time, yeah they can look like that.

You can force your dreadlocks to look this nice by crocheting them after you have backcombed them. Its a method used in Russia and there was a post on Get Up Dread Up about it..took me a wee while to find it, but here it is!

They are beautiful! Takes ages to do it tho. I've done it before but it took me 2 days to finish it, so about 16 hours in total. But, im guessing it takes them no time at all because they do it all the time! lol!

I'd say get someone to help with the sections, i've started sets with both DIY and getting help, and it's just impossible to get the sections even and straight on your own head.

and I second the suggestion about crocheting, makes for mature looking dreads right away as opposed to waiting months.
