Two tone hair - How do you keep dye from bleeding?

Post by marymairi » Sun Apr 08, 2012 7:11 am

Hi guys,

My friend wants me to dye her hair black and light blonde. How can I keep the black dye from bleeding into the blonde areas? I generally use foils but what I often see happen is the black staining the blonde hair while washing the dye out, or whenever the hair is washed during the first week or so.

Any suggestions for process/dye type/etc will be greatly appreciated! I'm sure many of you are much better trained in this sort of thing than I am.

Foil the black and blonde areas separately. Rinse the black foils first being careful not to let black rinse into the blonde foils. Then go back through and rinse blonde areas.

*Edited to add* You will need a spray nozzle, do not attempt from a straight faucet like a bath or sink.
