Question for qualified hairdressers

Post by diversityhair » Mon Jul 25, 2011 6:35 pm

Please only answer if you are qualified and know what you are talking about ;)

Im a hairdresser myself, but i dont work in a salon anymore and so am probably lagging behind on what products are available at the moment.

Basically im interested in any tips to deal with frizz.

I have very fine, medium thick hair with a loose curl in it from about mid way down the length (its only bob length).

I want to combat the frizz without loosing the curl, and i dont want it all wet and crispy looking either.

Ive concidered the brazillian keratin treatment, but i think it would lose me the curl altogether, and i dont want straight hair.

Any products anyone can recommend when styling to smooth down the frizziness on top and shape the curls nicely?

I've had a lot of good experience with Awapuhi Wild Ginger Hydrocream Whip.

Bouncy Creme works great for most people I've talked to with curls! It leaves the hair soft, no crispiness!

Sorry, I'm not a qualified hairdresser, but I do have hair just like yours. TIGI's control freak serum works fine for me.

Ive only ever used that on frizzy straight hair, but i have some somewhere, so may give it a go. Its hard to create defined, non frizzy curls without making the hair look wet/greasey/clogged with product.

I'm in the US so I'm not sure what you can get hold of, but I've had wonderful luck with Brocato's Curlkarma energizing cream, as well as "It's a 10" leave in conditioner. Benniefactor also has amazing products but they're crazy hard to find.

Yeah, try! Apply to we hair, scrunch the curls up and let them air dry while scrunching every now and then. Hair dryer is a big no no - at least for me.

Do you ever wrap ringlets around you finger when it's wet and let it dry like that before shaking them out? I rarely use product (our hair is very very similar, sounds like) and this trick works sooo well for me!

Yes i always do that. The trouble with my hair is, its straight for the first 5" and then loose curls/waves. Its the top straight bits that wont ringlet when i do that, and dry fuzzy unless i put so much product on it its either stuck to my head or crispy. Very tempted to do a self perm on just the top section of my hair to match the other curls, but given the texture of my hair on top (if you run your fingers along the hair down the cuticle the right way, it isnt smooth, its really bumpy), i dont want to dry it/damage it further.
