I'm getting married!
Just wanted to share as I'm so excited, I got engaged last night! My boyfriend came into the Library where I work with a big bunch of my favourite flowers, lillies, and proposed.
We're planning to get married in a medieval castle and I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions for reception entertainment or, anyone whose already got married, if you have any good links for places to check out or any advice. I've never been to a wedding before so am unsure really how it all works.
I'm looking at getting a medieval style dress as well and was wondering if anyone had and suggestions on what I could do with my hair? It's shoulder length very dark brown and straigt with a fringe. Thanks.

How long have you both been together so far??

Re: I'm getting married!
CONGRATULATIONS!!!
A good place to look for venues is;
http://www.weddingvenues.com/
As for the entertainment etc just think about what you would really really like for your wedding, remember you only get one day so you have to make the most of it. Are you planning on having a large wedding with all the extras or something small and intimate?
Again with you hair, how would you like it? Would you want dreads on your wedding day or more of a traditional hairdo? It's entirely up to you x
I think the first thing to consider really(venue wise) is how many people will be going, to the wedding and then the reception as that can effect the choice of venue.
If you want any help/advice with any of it just drop me a PM, I planned / arranged my entire wedding, I have photos on myspace of my wedding if you want a look;

If your getting married in a castle, why not have a medieval or tudor themed wedding?

CONGRATS CHICKA!!!
for our reception we're just booking a table at a restaurant, because receptions are so expensive. but if you can afford it, try and find somewhere that'll host the ceremony and the reception.

Re: I'm getting married!
Oh!!!! Congrats! That's awesome!
As far as entertainment goes, my hubby and I picked all our music ourselves from our collection and burned it to CDs and lent an ipod as a back up to our DJ. He took care of the rest.
TheKnot.com has some interesting features. Some of it is useless, but I found their budget calculator handy. You plunk in your budget for flowers, dress, music, etc, and it keeps a tally of your overall costs and helps you know what your spending.
We also found plaxo.com handy for keeping tab on everyones addresses for invitations and thank yous and all of that good stuff.
Get yourself a handy dandy binder. I carried mine EVERYWHERE I went. It's great for paperwork, invoices, certificates and all.
One GREAT idea my father told me when it comes to the invitations....on a bottom corner on the back of the RSVP in pencil lightly number each one. Guest will send the RSVP's back but forget to write their names on them! YES, they do! I had a master list of which number belonged to which guest, so I was able to know who repsonded and who was coming/not coming by checking the list. It also became incredibly important to us because we had a mishap with a lot of our invites. The got soaked in the mail
(don't ask me how they got this wet!) and were returned to us with the names and addresses washed right off! We would not have known who got an invite and whos were returned without those little numbers!!!!!I hope that makes sense...
Feel freee to pick my brain any time if you like!

Re: I'm getting married!
Congratulations!!! Jeannie Nitro has BEAUTIFUL (and affordable I might add) wedding dresses. I bought one for my wedding and was able to wear it again (I wore black, not white...teee heee...I wasn't fooling anyone).

As far as the hair goes, updos are always pretty if you've got enough hair. Flowers are a nice touch, too, either real or artificial. A nice simple bun with some sort of accessory is nice as well.
I'm married and the best advice I can give is ENJOY your day. Don't sweat the small stuff, don't allow yourself to stress out so much that you can't have a good time and everything will fall into place. I remember the happy parts of my wedding day because I wasn't a stessball. Not much went "wrong", but it didn't really matter. The worst thing is that I lost my DJ a week before the wedding and had to make mix tapes. *shrugs* Nobody danced anyway.

Re: I'm getting married!
Congratulations ^_^
As for organising the wedding - I'd go totally off track and do it your own way you don't have to do what all those stupid magazines say.. and you certainly don't need to pay a crapload of extra money for rubbish like seat covers that match the napkins ¬_¬
I hated all those 'how to plan a wedding' things when I was planning mine, as they're just designed to make you think you NEED all this extra stuff that you really don't!
We had ours in our local Guildhall, as it wasn't too expensive (only a couple of hundred compared to one of those big hotel places that cost thousands of pounds!) and we had the reception at our local pub - they have a little venue room thingy upstairs and they were a bit confused when we asked about having our wedding reception up there! A few months later, a mate of ours had their wedding reception there too - we started a trend! ^_^
Also, the cake - we just got a plain white 'celebration cake' from ASDA (no really, they're actually REALLY tasty! Everyone commented about how nice the cake was!) and my father-in-law decorated it for us with some stuff from his local cake-making shop thingamy.. y'know, where they sell all baking paraphernalia... it looked really good
But anyway, point is.. if you have food, booze, somewhere to sit and some good music, nobody worth their salt is going to give a crap what the venue's like, so just go with your budget and go wherever you feel comfortable
I hope you don't get too stressed organising it - I did ours in about 4 months, so don't listen to all that rubbish about having to spend years organising it... well, unless the venue you want is booked up for that long, anyway!
Good luck ^_^
*edit* Oh! Forgot about the dress!
I had a sorta medieval-style dress too (not very, I mean it was ivory duchess satin, but it was cut in medieval style) I had the shorter parts of my hair & my fringe loosely pinned up out of my face and the rest curled into loose ringlets.. very natural and flowy (oh, and my hair was a bit short so I put in HH extensions too) with a very simple tiara-type thingy from Accessorize ^_^ (I hated all the OTT, fussy ones in the wedding shops!)
So yeah, I think wavy or curled, loose hair is best if you're going medieval. A big bouffant just wouldn't really 'go', methinks. Also, a garland-type thing could work well, maybe with flowers in
