Very first set: Cherry Berry Dreads!!

Post by NearFantastica » Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:08 pm

Well, I'm finally finished. My very first set! I have a bunch of harlequins and single ended dreads (not pictured) for around my hair line or wherever I feel the urge to put them. It took me a LONG time, mostly because I worked on them off and on. I'm actually quite pleased with the way they turned out. It was obvious how much my technique had improved from the beginning, cause when I looked at some of the first ones I made I had to re-seal them and tighten them up lol, there was a difference that's for sure. They're not all exactly the same length, but you know what, I'm fine with that! They're pretty close :) The next part will be the attempt to install them, and I've been doing ALOT of reading on here about that haha. I'm kind of nervous about putting them in, I hope that they stay nice and don't unravel on me lol.

Tell me what you guys think!!!

I see a few bits that look a little "flat" that may have done well from more backcombing, but all in all they look very very good for your first shot. Wish I could see the ends to give comments on those. If you want more info on installing, click over here.

There are the ends! They're a little fat for my tastes, but they look as if they'll hold up so if you're happy with the way they look, more power to you.

Yeah, some of my first ones were definitely not backcombed enough lol. I tried to fix them, we will see how they hold up! As for the ends, I had a hell of a time figuring out a good way to seal them. Some of them turned out a bit fatter than others, because when I tried to fix them I took length off ha. This whole set has been experimentation, and I kind of have an idea of what will work and what won't now :)

PS, THANK YOU for the link, that is exactly what I've been looking for!!

I like the ends, but I am also not a fan of the wispy ends. They look good, hope to see more.

I seriously underestimated these dreads. I used all that I had, and with my hair being thick, my head was huge! I ended up taking out a bunch of my DE's (think I'll make some falls out of those), cause it was just too much. Not so much the weight but I wouldn't have been able to pull it back, which is important. I guess next time I will know to either make them thinner, make bigger sections and use more SE's? It looked awesome though :) How do you guys usually install yours?

Now... I'm looking forward to my scalp not aching...

Hey thanks Sharaya :) I can't wait to put them in again, unfortunately right now my hair color does NOT match lol. Guess I will need to just work on a new set ;)

I'd love to see pictures of the install. They look cool and I like the clean looking ends!

They do look like they could use a bit more backcombing, but I've gotta admit they're better than my first ones. I like the colors; hope to see install pics!

Oh wow, I haven't been checking this and didn't realize all the good replies I got :) I am almost finished my second set now (if my steamer decides it will work again *sigh*) and will post them for everyone to see. As for these ones, they will definitely be put in again someday when my hair color changes back to being dark and I will post some pics of the install. I actually might have one pic, at least, I think my bf took a pic, I should look for it... I'm not entirely sure why I didn't take more lol.

Thanks for the compliments and the advice!!
