First attempt at synth

Some of the colors would not seal as tight as the blonde ones, the brand of hair was different...

More backcombing is needed. That is why they aren't sealing very well.
Some tips:
1. Separate the hair before you do any backcombing to ensure you have equal amounts of hair before starting to backcomb. If you are making candycane dreads, use half of each colour. Use this pictut as a guide to how much hair you should be using and how to correctly separate the hair > http://angeleyezxtc.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2x49n2
2. Backcomb until the dreads are able to stand up by themselves if held upside down. Backcombing candy canes (half the hair) is a tad trickier, so get backcombing on solid dreads, then try the less hair. Don't be afraid to use more hair!
3. Backcomb into the loop very well and make sure both sides of the hair are joined together below the loop. This also applies to the candycanes, backcomb each colour separately, then bring together and backcomb the two colours together a bit.
4. Twisting, remember to use your thumbs to create an even twist (the so the outside of the backcombed dread stays on the outside when twisted), this prevents helixing.
5. Don't let go of your twisted dread when sealing until it is completely cool. Blowing on it or using a little fan can help with that.
All in all, I think you did ok at getting the ends sealed on the few blonde ones, but there's a first for everybody, so keep trying, practise and be patient! That's all you need ;)

Hey hon, promising start & I can't tell you very much myself because I'm just getting started but seeing as how I see you had some of the issues I had I can give you some of the advice some of the other ladies have given me.

-backcomb more & feel for lumps when doing so
-twist & seal tighter & for the ends I was given a great suggestion which was to use some pliers & clamp the ends & then seal so that way you get nicely sealed ends without burning the crap out of your hands.
-try to make all your loops about the same size...you don't want them too big or too little.

Side note: as far as your candy cane dreads I'm not sure if this is a method you used but I would suggest this method by rivetlicker that I found on youtube.

Are you sure the orange and purple are kanekalon? They look like they might be 100% synthetic.

Thanks for the tips ladies.

And honestly, I'm pretty sure that they're synthetic too. It didn't say 100% KK on the bag like all the blonde ones did, the people at the store that I got the hair from knew pretty much next to zero about what I was asking for and they told me those ones were KK too, but the texture of them are competely different, they feel quite plasticy in comparison. And it's really akward to backcomb.

I got quite a few colors and some of them feel different then the others also.

I'm just going to order online exclusively I think......

That sucks :/ Thats why I haven't tried too hard to find stores that sell it, I just don't trust them! Maybe you could make loose pony falls out of it or something?

Maybe, I'm pretty sure I still have the receipt for them, and I have like 10 other bags I haven't opened of the crap, I think I just might try and exchange the unopened bags and just get more blonde and some reds. All the colors that they had that said 100% KK were blondes, and browns, and a dark red... and a very bright yellow.

I think I'm just going to make myself a more natural set, and then never go there again.

Where does everyone prefer to order their hair from?

IKS?

Looking at the picture, they looks seriously effed up..... =S

The blonde ones look pretty good, but the colored ones are odd and shiny looking.

Thanks, I really appreciate the comments.

I'm going to return those crappy colors that I haven't opened and just use the natural colors I have.

Will post pictures of those ones tomorrow.

You can use it for braids or for the wrappy/braided bits of knotty no-seal dreads. 100% synthetic isn't completely useless; it just sucks for dreads most of the time :)
