How/what to secure a wig to?

Post by synthetiquite » Thu Sep 10, 2009 3:37 pm

Hi

Ive been making dreads now for about 4/5 years
I have only just started making dreads wigs, more of an experiment really.
I have a polysterene head to use to display my wig on.

But how can i actually anchor my wig down to be able to actually dread the wig itself.
Ive tried pinning the wig to the head and then holding the head between my legs. But it really isn't working.

Does anyone have any hints or tips for me?
Thanks in advance
xx

I would advise getting a base for the head I have the suction cup one. It sucks dont get that one it comes loose every few mins. very annoying but very cheep and it still beats holding the head in my legs. theres the kind that clap to the edge of a table or whatever you can get those really cheep at any Sallys and on ebay. and then theres this one http://cgi.ebay.com/DELUXE-Vacuum-base- ... 286.c0.m14
Im thinking about getting one of these. still not to expensive. might be worth the extra $5
hope this helps :i2:

Maybe try using a wig block and a clamp? A wig block is kind of like a styrofoam head, but it's made of canvas, and there are special clamps that you can buy for them so you can mount them on a counter or table.

Here's what they look like:

If you look for places on Ebay that carry them, the same shop will more than likely also have the right stand.

You want a wig clamp.

Just do a google search. It should look like this:

It clamps to a table.

I've had really bad luck with the suction cup ones -they just don't stick.

You can pin your wig down onto the styrofoam head, and put the head on the clamp. :)

If you're desperate you can probably find something around the house.
My steamer's hanger top comes off so I just take the styrofoam head and put it right on the top of the steamer pole.
