Attaching yarn to headbands?

Post by somekindafreak » Wed Jul 29, 2009 11:10 am

Hi I have an idea but not sure how to put it into practise and was hoping some of you girls might be able to help! Is there a way I could attach yarn to a head band like this:

So that when worn it gave good coverage an hid my hair undeneath? I was thinking either stitching or something but then wouldnt the thread show up on the otherside of the headband?

Any replies greatfully recieved!

that type of headband is often like a tube of fabric so if you're crafty with your stitching you might be able to stitch just through the relevant side

Yeah I thought that maybe the material might pull out so to speak so id be able to feel where I was stitching, the other alternative I thought of was sewing some material over the headband afterwards in a coordinating colour to hide the stitch marks...

You could always buy two and put the nonstiched one on top

I'm not sure about that, but if you're looking for full coverage yarn you could try this viewtopic.php?f=67&t=2783

Yaha, got ya. I think these may be more appropriate ( http://www.kaboodle.com/reviews/so-3-pk ... adband-set ). You could tie yarn to it and it would "lock" securely into your hair with the teeth. Place that near the back of your head's crown, then do the side combs like normal.

I have used this for years:

viewtopic.php?f=67&t=461

to make coverage in the back, I suggest then sewing wool to the back of the band and then knotting in to the wool strands to get coverage. I have successfully used this method and added in to make a full headband wig for many years :)

I also use hard headbands with teeth, tieing the wool to it and building up ( you might tie sevral strands of wool along one length of wool, concentrating on the back middle part of the head).

Thank you both for your replys :) That zig zag comb is genius!

Also I never thought of sewing the wool to the headband then just continually knotting the rest on at the back to make it look full and hide my hair- I guess sometimes you just need the obv pointing out

I had never seen anyone else do it when I tried it many years ago- they became one of my best sellers!

it is obvious though isn't it- I was always surprised no one else seemed to offer headband wigs as a staple on their sites! I will only do something like that as a special request as I only make synth ponys now due to time restrictions, but I do miss making headband wigs!

I saw a YT tut that just uses a thinner headband and you have the extensions kinda sandwiched between two layers of your natural hair and cover with a plastic headband.

She also has an install tut as well.

She has inspired a lot of my own yarn creations ^^

I make yarn headbands like these too.
I use a headband like the pics you've posted, then stitch the yarn to it.
I use about twice the amount of yarn i would use in a pair of falls and it's a lot easier to wear than falls too.
