Least itchy wool?

Post by darcitananda » Sun Jan 15, 2012 12:28 am

Hey everyone,
Sorry if this question has been posted before, but an intensive search and browse session didn't yield any results.

In your opinion, which wool is the least itchy? I've made roving dreads out of alpaca, merino, and corriedale. I'm thinking that it seems merino is the softest, followed by alpaca, and lastly corriedale. Alpaca contains no lanolin, so it's the only hypoallergenic wool of the three. Does anyone use any other wool that they think is superior to any/all of these?

I'm definitely saying Merino is the softest against the skin and scalp.

I've not tried baby camel. I've had baby alpaca, which is BUTTER soft, however it doesn't felt well so the dreads made from it were all squooshy. Soft, but not really practical.
