Tapered roving dreads?

Post by linziloop » Tue Mar 29, 2011 7:36 pm

Hi there! I wonder if anyone knows of a way to get roving DE dreads tapered, i.e fat at the top and skinny to a point at the bottom? I always quite bluntly cut my lengths up so they come out quite uniform, with just a little tiny bit at the end that is skinner, but i want the transition from really fat to really skinny looking kinda like the effect you can get with chunky synths if you know what I mean?

Would it mean just cutting mt lengths of roving at a better angle? Felting tighter near the end? Pulling some of the roving off nearer the ends? Any other magic i may not know about?! These will be one colour dreads otherwise i would use misimahair's great tuts on the twisted ones which seem to come out like that....sadly i don't want twisted on this particular occassion.

No, don't cut your roving. Tear it, like pull it apart, that'll give you a more tapered end.

here's cut:

here's torn:

Or, you could make em as harlies, but stagger the roving so you get a thin end....I've done that before.

You're welcome ;) they belong to Lara (Rivetlicker) but living in Oz means it's too warm to install em atm.

Yeah totally pull instead of cutting. But also if you wanted the top even fatter you could get little bits of roving and add it to the top as you felt
