My wool dreads have crazy ends on them!

Post by jennyswool » Sun Jan 03, 2010 6:38 pm

I'm sorry if this topic has already been posted, but I couldn't find it.

Whenever I made wool dreadlocks, the ends never come out nicely rounded. They always taper down and sometimes get stringy with time. How do I avoid this? Sometimes I like the "raggedy" look, personally, but I would like to be able to make cleaner dreads if I choose to. Any tips?

Also.. sometimes the ends go flat. Even if I felt them round, once they get slept on they seem to go flat. And sometimes funny-shaped. I'm posting two pictures of what I'm trying to avoid...

Thanks!

Just trim them off and re-roll! Well, that's what I do anyway, when I installed my last set the ends needed a little trim about halfway through.

well that sounds easy! even when they're jsut done, though, they seem to taper instead of round. is that normal?

That fat end is likely where it got folded over, so be careful when its in the water to avoid this happening. I also agree about snipping off and rerolling.

Yeah, they will still be tapered, but do you really want them round? I guess you could stab a little taper back in vertically with a felting needle if you wanted them round :)

I'm a little hesitant to help, due to what you've said on your homepage
.... evidently you don't need our help with a claim like that

I wouldn't be here for help if I thought that was true! Lol! The people that have ordered from me don't even know what wool dreads are before they go to my site (and I'm thankful for it!)

Cheap marketing :)

Your site is Jungle Dreads, correct? One of my favorites and I can only hope that one day I can make roving dreads as gorgeous as yours!

Maybe u should be perfecting your technique before offering your services to the public.

I second the advice of just cutting off the stringy ragged bits. As for the flattening, if you felted your dreads a little more, even if it was just the ends so they were a bit more sturdy, they wouldn't squish like that.

All these fiends want teenage meat
All my friends are murderers."
