My name is Sky, i am a dreadmaker and natural dread upkeeper.

I had my first set a few years ago but have put them in and out a few times with various real hair extentions.
Currently making another set of extensions for myself between work.

I am a WAHM to two fur babies and two beach babies.

I love anything sparkly and purple/black/teal.

I love sunshine but hate the heat, love snow hate the cold. So, if somebody could create warm snow, that would make my day!

During my life I've had natural dreads twice, the first time I dreaded my butt-length hair (including bangs)... since then I've had mostly short hair except for the sides in front of the ears--just my style, you know?

I've been interested in synth dreads for a very long time but there was and still is limited suppliers here in canada to make them. I finally got some money together to start a year ago, and have been enjoying them since.

So I'm not new to dreads but new to synthetics! I'm glad I found this place, it's awesome!

hallo fancy peoples. I'm Elly (a.k.a. "Elleh" to those who feel so inclined)
Im basically a nordic unicorn queen (according to my two year old) who has only just begun the fabulous dread/faux hair journey (read: n00b)
About a month ago something triggered me to want to know more about synthetic dreads - to this day I cannot remember WHAT it was. Fast forward over the next few days that consisted of furious research and crash-course style absorption of technique and style and I had already begun chopping up cheap wigs because I was too impatient to wait for my fibre to arrive.

Fast forward even MOAR (now we're present day) and I've made one full set, that fits my head at least (mohawk etc), with moderate success. I had fibre enough lined up for two new kits, but I found out the hard way that certain brands and colors just.do.not.want.to.seal. So. I now have a set of dreads, fibre for another, and a headful of silver braids. Wooo..?

I'm also waiting on my steamer to get here (1300W - bought after reading up on steamers and wattage on here, so I'm assuming 1300W will be plenty powerful for sealing), so, that should be fun. Bf isn't too happy that I've been using his prized iron to seal dreads *whoopsies*

My name's Anne, I live in Aberdeen now with my husband and two cats, I still fly kites but haven't done much kitebuggy racing over the past couple of years due to work. I work offshore, mostly on boats in the North Sea but have been on a few platforms as well. It's a glamorous lifestyle which involves quite a bit of hard-hat wearing, so no dreads for me for quite some time.

Currently awaiting an assessment from the Occupational Health to see if I'm going to be taking a break from offshore work due to pregnancy, so hey maybe I'll get to stay home and have dreads!!!

Hi all! I am now old enough to get to be tattooed and pierced and a big ole hippie mama! Just got my first set of dreads put in, a mixture of synthetics I bought on etsy and wool braids I made, boiled, and rolled myself. The only hair long enough for attachment was on the top of my head (I'd been sporting an undercut) so I'm dealing with some styling issues as well as blank spots because my natural hair is soooo thin. I'm using white powder right now to fill in where my scalp shows (hair dyed platinum, synthetics are white) but may make some more super thin wool dreads to fill in. Need to balance thickness and not overwhelming my thin hair to get breakage. So excited to be here and get all geeked out on hair stuff!

Hey ladies!
My name is Morgan and I'm a nursing student. I've been messing with my hair for as long as I can remember. I started getting Itips in the summer, and to keep costs down, purchased tools and beads on my own to put in strands in between salon visits. Of course the beads were too small. I bleach and tone my own hair so it never looks the same and I'm ok with that!
Being a student, I'm always looking for ways to keep costs down. I'm rough on my hair in terms of brushing and probably don't take as good care of it as I should. I'm currently testing out using itip and tape in at the same time (pending hair arrival) to tape in some pieces between visits.
My main reason for being on this forum is to find high quality hair at decent prices. I don't mind paying for quality if I know it will last, but there are so many brands out there and I'm unsure which to use.
I hope to learn much from you ladies and add my thoughts where I can

Im from canada and im was searching a forum since forever next to my country. Im a accounting student with a little baby boy and a husband.

I started to make synthetic dreads since im 14 years old and im now 26. I didnt make dreads all those years, only 3 years and a half approximately. I have sold around 12 sets only, make 9 full sets for free to friends and make about 15 full heads for me. (I didnt learn dreads to make money just saying!)

I'm also looking to add extensions to my mohawk, I want this long, gorgeous, full, curly mohawk and so far most people keep telling me it can't be done. Frankly I don't believe with all the technology we have out there that it's impossible, so I'm here, looking for more possibilities.

I go by Lou and I am a total newbie besides one experience with braided in DE dreads. I LOVED them so much that they've been on my mind for the last 3 years. Due to my chronic illnesses, washing my hair every other day or even every 3 days can be really hard for me and I am looking at doing dreadlocks to help me and give me something to be happy with re: my hair. I have short hair, about 3in. at the back and 4in. up top.... I'm looking at making and installing SE dreads - hopefully as permanent extensions. That leads me to why I'm here! I'll be scouring for or posting to get advice on how best to do this, how best to maintain and upkeep, etc. I've been doing research but I feel as though I should know more before the synthetic hair gets here (it's backordered so it'll probably take a month to get here) and before I start making the dreads.

So feel free to PM me if you have specific advice, otherwise I'm sure you'll see me somewhere around the forum.

Thank you for allowing me to become part of this community. For starters, I have worn a variety of hair extensions. Currently, wigs have become an addition to the wardrobe. However, I am working toward a new goal which includes creating falls of the following styles: cyberlox, dreads, twists and braids to name a few. Hair designing is among one of my favorite pursuits. It is where my creative spirit can truly flow. Whenever an idea comes to mind, I try to turn that project into a huge production.

That pretty much summarizes me in a nutshell. I am open to any suggestions, tips, input or recommendations while continuing this journey. It is a learning process and I would really like to take my creativity a step further. I hope to see you all around the boards. Until then, take care.

Hi, I'm new here. I noticed there was not option for me to post a new thread here, so decided to post in this thread.

I'm a guy with long hair from the UK and I'm currently looking into ways to use hair extensions to conceal hair loss. I'm a rock musician and need to maintain a certain look, and have some hair loss on the top and a slightly receding hairline. I've been using various hair loss concealers for a while and I'm reasonably happy with the results, but I'm now looking into a better alternative of getting hair extensions installed by a specialist to achieve the result I'm looking for.

I would be grateful for any advice about how to use hair extensions to conceal my hair loss on the top and hairline, and how to go about finding someone near me who can put them in. Also, would I need to use men's hair extensions or wouldn't it really matter? As long as the texture and colour matches my hair and seamlessly blends in with my own hair, I'd be happy with the results.

Hair 2018:
That's a tough one. Typically extensions are installed at the root and rely on the hair above to conceal.
With dreads it can be a little different because you can install an entire dread near the base and have the attachment relatively well concealed in plain sight - the only caveat is that you need something to attach it to.

I have a couple client's in your position. The best thing to consider is getting a lace frontal piece with dreaded hair to match yours. You can install it and keep it reasonably cinched down (usually done with adhesives, clips or beaded methods) and it will provide the coverage and the blend you are looking for. You would need to update it every couple weeks to keep it looking its best. If you did a piece with an integration (netting with larger than lace holes) you can pull your natural dreads through instead of having them packed under a solid lace piece.

hello all,
I've been searching the web for months trying to find a place like this! I'm very glad I did, and I have learned more in a day on here than I had in forever on all the other lame places I found
My cousin started her real dreads a year or 2 ago, obtenir crédit and ever since I've wanted them, but unfortunately I work in a professional setting, in rural Iowa, USA, where just my nose piercing was quite a shock - so I needed a way to have dreads that I could take out easily!
I made a few sets of SEs that were wearable with a headband...then got busy with life and now am back at it. My most recent set is basically a fall, on a ponytail though. It's only about 20 dreads, so I have them pinned up in this photo so you can't see the rest of my head

I can't wait to start working on my set of DE naturals, which I am going to install semi-permanently.
