Big retrospective showoff plus some new stuff! ZOMG pics.
Alright, I'll join the group and post a bunch of old stuff since we're a brand new board, plus I have some new stuff at the end for you all. There is a complete metric assload of pics here so sorry if you have a slow connection - but enjoy!
These are roughly in chronological order, no promises on exact order though. All made by me unless stated otherwise.
My very first dreads - sealed with a hairdryer and there are only about 12 of them tied into a pathetic little fall that barely covered my bun.
The ghetto-rasta Sailormoon look - still crappy, but at least there's a few more of them now - but still needed to put an extra hair tie over them to hide the buns.
Got a teakettle, improved to the point of having actual falls..
And more colors!
For New Year's Eve stacked every color of dread I had on my head for a Rainbow Brite costume, then got too drunk to get good pics so here's the best:
Did my first full install with some secondhand dreads made by Pallidity/HairEnigma
Made my first dread wig (1) and totally ruined the fringe so I just recently went back and put a new one on, a few itty bitty strands at a time (2)
Made and installed my first transitionals..
First dreads for someone else, fall on a claw clip for my girl V - would you believe that was blonde when i started with it?
Went brown and pretty much lived in these lovelies from Devilish Do's.
Took some orders and made some dreads and wigs for other people:
Tossed together these big ol' mixed falls using some of the Devilish Do's dreads, some curly brown dreads that I made, some manufactured microbraids and some cocoa and green crin..
Curlies for Faerie Festival...
Mixed up the same dreads for a gig:
Leopard print spiky falls bought from KittenAttack, can't recall who made the actual dreads:
Experimental silky curl falls:
Brown and dark red falls made by Laur3n:
Went green, made myself these blended green falls that I've been messing with ever since:
Added some silky braids...
... and some stuff vaguely in the style of ls_seven...
Aaaaand Fiiinally some stuff I haven't shown off before. Wheee.
Gooorgeous green and blue roving from Lisa/quietsleeper:
My hair was manky and I had no time to shower before a gig, so I plopped on a black wig:
Made some clip-in streaks - #27 HH weft dyed with Beyond The Zone haircolor in "Raspberry Kamikaze" - I am officially in love with this color and considering dying my hair that for a little bit after I'm done with green. Also, wonderfully, it's almost an exact match for Plastikhaar himbeere, so i added some accent dreads in that color to my standby green falls:
Some more clipins - raspberry on the left, leopard print done with atomic pink and MP Cotton Candy pink in the middle, and on the right a purple made by mixing SFX Atomic Pink and Electric Blue:
Aaaand finally, I put those purple streaks to use, along with some mini-crin in vibrant green and metallic purple, plus some twists made from purple PP, in the hair I wore out to the strip club on my birthday (the strippers looooved it)
And here's me drunk off my ass afterwards in the parking lot of Wal-Mart (we stopped because I had to pee) with my boy leading me back to my friends and the van - here you can see the longer bits I installed in the front that the girls enjoyed playing with.
Whew! ::wipes forehead:: So. Yay. That's me. I liiive for your comments and constructive criticism.

Your wigs are always so fantastic. I'm in love with that orange one even though I don't really fancy orange. Nice tight looking dreads & that one neon pink/purple transition etc.. set is great!

I love that wig! XD It's so awesome and the longer fringe on it is lush. A lot of dread wigs really look like wigs but that one is just perfect! You'd think it was your real hair
I also really love the pink, purple and blonde set you'd made for someone else.
Green hair REALLY suits you (helps it's one of my favorite haircolours XD) and I adore the is_seven style dreadies you did with green hair :3

:glee: Thank you guys so much!
Thanks again, ladies, for all your nice comments.
Yup, those were dirty curls. I wanted new hair for fairy fest and didn't have time to do a normal set for myself since I was working hard on orders at the time, so I tossed those together in two nights. Nice and easy. Once I get some more green hair ordered in, I think I'm going to make a green curly set, but can't decide if I want to go traditional curls (which I've not had before) or dirty. Hmmm.vintagesoul wrote:i love them all! *especially* all the natural looking brown ones and the purple to white trans set! those look like the curls from the "dirty curls" tutorial if I am not mistaken? looks wonderful on you! great work!

OT but dirty curls- is that when you plait 2 straight dreads together and pour boiling water on them?
On Topic- I love reading your posts, all your hair looks great! I particularly like all the green ones and the fairy fest hair

Re: Big retrospective showoff plus some new stuff! ZOMG pics.
Thank you! The dirty curls was a method desiree came up with - unfortunately her tutorial for it is lost, I can't find it through Google's cache either. Basically instead of sealing regularly and then wrapping the dread around something or braiding together and re-sealing for curls, you take the DE and twist it so it wraps around itself nice and tight and then pour boiling water over to seal the curl. It's more wavy than spiraly and you generally have to go back and redo the ends, but it's so much faster than regular curlies, or even regular straight dreads for that matter.Becca wrote:OT but dirty curls- is that when you plait 2 straight dreads together and pour boiling water on them?

I can't say for certain exactly how desiree did hers but what I did was hooked each dread over the bar of a plastic hanger, then twisted each half of the dread clockwise, while twisting the two halves together in a counter-clockwise direction. When you get down to the tiny wispy ends they pretty much stay together on their own, but you can also put a rubber band on. I actually tied the ends in a knots on some because I knew I'd be trimming that bit anyway. Here's a pic of all mine twisted up on the hanger, ready to have boiling water poured over them:
Whew. Hope that made sense. Ending hijack now, back to the hair!
