Hibiscus' Kandi and my first crochet

Post by ScarletLady » Sun Aug 08, 2010 5:16 pm

I made these to go with the dreads as part of a swap. She wanted a leopard print one and a cthulhu one. I had to design the cthulhu one myself and I'm quite pleased with it, it's hard to photograph but you get the idea.

Side shot to show the bubbles - the colours aren't that true to life so the bubbles don't look very contrasting but they are :)

And here are my granny squares...bear in mind I only first picked up a crochet hook yesterday, they're not that neat yet but I'm still pleased. The lilac ones are some lovely organic merino wool I have, and the pink with yellow are just some acrylic yarn. Not bad for a first go I think :)

Normally, I'm not a fan of Kandi - but that leopard print one you've made is fantastic! Kudos on the crochet too, you're a lot further ahead than I am.....however I R a procrastinating :D

I think those are really good for your first try at granny squares!

May do a tutorial at some point or another :)

I love the blues on the kandi

Did you use the leopard pattern from Crumpet's kandi site? I like how well it came out!
Your Cthulu one is adorable for a custom pattern, I dig it~
We should do a kandi trade one day, if you are down

Look at that cute lil' Cthulhu:) LOL!
Your first time crocheting? Dang! looks good. I've tried to crochet a few times, I'm a knitter and when I try to crochet my hands keep trying to knit arrrggghhh.

I've knitted since I was 8 (I'm 22 now) and been crchetting for 2 years - it was very hard at first because my hands went into knit mode, whereas now I find it hard to knit

Yeah it is from there - the patterns from there are great. I did the chutlhu one using the pattern maker from there in Paint

Regarding crocheting, I'm definitely finding it harder than knitting at the moment...not the stitches, but getting the tension right and being neat - my knitting is very neat and even but my crochet isn't

Thanks for the comments guys :)

I've never paid attention to tension - either in knitting or crochet.

I do it naturally in knitting...it just comes out neat and even without me thinking about it. My crochet is even...as in I'm keeping the tension the same, but looking at your pictures, and granny blanket I have that my Nan made me, I'm sure I should be doing it much tighter....I can't quite get my hands around pulling it tight enough and still being able to pull the thread through

Is your merino yarn varigated - thick thin? It looks like it's handspun merino :O

I stumbled across it on a cheap wool site - it's better than half price on there ;)

I have a lot of stuff similar to what you've just shown, my Nan just sent me a package of about 12 balls of different of colours - it's the pink and yellow in the picture at the top. She's 88 now and can't knit like she used to bless her.

It's Black Sheep Wool or something - they have a lot of sale stuff on there. Don't buy up all their stock though, it's discontinued now and I want more before it all goes :?
