backcombing too much?
is it possible? it seems like it takes me FOREVER to do one DE dread on average about 10-15 min each, longer if im just not into it or have a difficult color. i get so frustrated at times because i feel like i am not making any progress on a set
here are a few pics
this is a DE i just did its about 26 inches, i know it should be able to support itself but is this a bit excessive?

i really don't think you can backcomb too much. i've found that i've gotten quicker with my back combing the more i do. it used to take me for EVER to get one dread now i get about 10 an hour. the more you back comb the more sturdy your dreads will be. those dreads i bet would hold up to a hurricane

It took me forever when I first started. Some days it still feels like it does, but once you've found your style and established a rhythm it does go faster.
I'm with Pinky on the hurricane comment! LOL

also you can soften them up with boiling water makes them more flexible.

they actually seal really soft. its kind of funny, they go from this stiff beast of a backcombed mess to a floppy dread i'll update with a picture later so you can seepinky wrote:also you can soften them up with boiling water makes them more flexible.
yes they do. the only thing is, they seal really tight so then they end up skinnier than i wanted. i could just be twisting them too tight myself thoughrivetlicker_ wrote:It's a stiff one xD

Re: backcombing too much?
Hey I had this same question. Mine seem to be a tangled ugly mess. This is my first dread, lol. So it's taking me FOREVER. Hours even. But I'm just getting the feel for it, you know? I was wondering how you seal yours since they come out so smooth and pretty. I haven't even gotten to the sealing part. But when I twist them around to see what they are like they look all ratty. Is that just cuz I haven't sealed them?
i couldnt figure out how to post the pic, heres a link. Are they suposed to be that ratty?
